Hi Folks. This Topic is for you to share your ideas, where you've adapted or modified a commodity, that was manufactured or sold, for a specific use other than for your Aquarium. Make sense? Here's a couple of simple ones to start off... (please try to provide a pic, if you can)

In the Background, one which will be familiar to most Catfish keepers. A kitchen Teaspoon, used to weight a Cucumber, to the Aquarium floor.

Also shown, my trusty Tooth-brush. I use this on my Acrylic tank, so that it doesn't scratch. It's far better than a pad, to get into alcoves and corners. And because the stem is white (pads are often dark), when you brush across the glass, you can easily see the little bits of Algae you've missed.
I've also shortend the bristles, to cut air resistance (hem hem), and to give a sparkly and more whiter clean.

And what kind of toothpaste do you use with your modified toothbrush to get that sparkly, white clean? Wink

No pic, but I bought a kitchen scrub brush for anything related to the tank, and I use a baby medicine dropper for meds or anything else that requires measuring. I had to write "Fish Only" in permanent marker on both.

i dont have an acrylic tank but i find a toothbrush with untrimmed bristles works good for removing some types of hair algae.

one other thing i use, that isnt exactly a household good, is the centre piece from industrial cleaning pads. one of my friends runs his own company that uses a lot of industrial cleaning machines. the centre piece from an industrial cleaning pad is about 3 inches across, made of a rough porous material that doesnt contain chemicals and works as a great algae cleaning pad.

It doesn't have to be a household good, Fishy, just not made for Aquarium use.

Here's another of my very handy tools, the Ice-Cream Stick! It's the perfect fit to clean out my small pump. It fit's in the Rotor Well, around the Spindle, and also down the Outlet Shaft. Gets all those fish boogies out! I keep a handful under my tank (sticks, not boogies!).
