I post here a couple of tank happenings that I have found amusing in the course of keeping fish. I hope others have some like tails of their own...


In a tank I had a few years back, I had a reasonable size Corydoras population, and about a dozen Rummy Nose Tetras. Over time the Rummy Nose numbers dwindled, and I wasn't replacing them.

Eventually there remained only one Rummy Nose. And this Rummy took to shoaling with the Corys, even to the point of settling on a leaf, or on the gravel with them.


More recently, I have a school of Hockey Stick Tetras (I think in some areas they're referred to as 'Penguin Tetras'). I also have some Otocinclus catfish. Oto's have similar colour pattern to the Hockey Sticks.

Anyway, one of my Oto's made a dart across the tank, as they do. The Hockey Sticks mistook him for one of thier own, and began to school around after him. Off they all went, zig-zagging all 'round the tank, as the Otto' tried to shake them off his tail.

I've had this happen before...I had my corys flirting around before spawning in my community tank and my old L128 Blue Phantom pl*co jumped in and started mimicking their actions leap frogging the corys etc..
guess he was just feeling left out lol

Yeah, I have a bunch of Silver Dollars, and a while ago I had a lot of black tetras. Only one black tetra is around anymore, but he makes himself right at home with the silver dollars. It's really interesting to watch the relationships fish build with each other. I love how corys form such tight bonds between each other. I have 3 differnet species from 3 separate petstores, and they are always around each other.

i have had my black neons follow my ottos about and vice versa. i put it down to the fact that they have similar markings.

as u can see from my tank list i have a few different types of corys. they get on well with each other but i also notice that sometimes they split into groups of their own kind, mostly at night time when they are resting.

one of my cory juliis fell in love with a fat cory leucomelas and wouldnt leave her alone for ages and ages. he seems to have calmed down a bit now. either she has told him she is not interrested or he has realised she is not the same type

I have a young platty that like to stay with the loaches on the bottom of the tank, hopefully one day he will discover he's a platy.
