My wife told me that one of the pandas had white spots on it. I thought ich at first, but upon inspection it is a white body fungus. I immediately tested the water; nitrate 7, nitrite 0, ammonia 0, ph 7.0. What gives? This aquarium also has my 7 L183s, 4 platys/swordtails, 2 danios, 2 pandas. I don't want ANYTHING to happen to my L183s. What should I use that will be effective yet safe?

Pimafix is a natural anti-Fungal medication. Some people mix it with Melafix, which is more anti-Bacterial.

here some-where on diagnostic sites, the Aqua-something Pharmaceuticals link (with the doctor fish) will tell you about this medication. It won't harm your filter bio-bacteria.

Funky, I can't give you an absolute 100% 'it won't harm any of your fish', because that's Nature. But I will recommend Pimafix and Melafix to anyone with similar problems. I've dosed full rates of Pimafix AND Melafix together, on Cory's, Bristlenose, Guppies, Angels, Rams, Keyholes, and Oto's, without loss.

On Planet Catfish it also gets approval, and on the short-lived PanaqueDriftwoodParadise. I have never heard a bad word against it.

I have my two bottles under my tank, and no quarms about using it on my fish, should the need arise.

Well I treated the tank with pimafix and melafix. My L183s went to the surface and some were swimming upside down and some had their heads sticking out of the water. Then the rest of my fish went to the surface. I did a 25% water change and a couple of the L183s went back to their hiding places. I then added so much oxygen to the tank that you couldn't see through one side to the other, via powerhead 802 and an air pump and air stone. I did that for about 30 minutes. I know you can over oxygenate. After I turned the oxygen down a bit some of the other fish went back to their routine. I PMed Kana3 and I found out that I had actually double dosed. By bedtime most everybody was back to normal.

This morning there was still 2 L183s at the surface, but all the other fish looked ok. The affected panda was active and had little to no signs of fungus. I'm going to do another water change when I get home. Hopefully everybody is still alive. I left the oxygen at moderate.

I guess you can't win them all. I lost the smallest L183. Everybody else is doing good.

It's probaly the way you worded it, but you don't have Oxygen on tap (cylinder) do you? You're just using Airstones, and Powerheads? Not that I think you're doing anything wrong, I ask only out of interest.

A mate of mine also misread his packaging, and dosed his tank at 10x the correct rate of Algaecide. That was interesting. He ran the same scenerio as you, massive water changes, and a couple of dead fish. The bastard's got no Algae tho'!

I did a 25% water change yesterday. I only use the powerheads and pumps/airstones to put air in the water. All but one L183 was active as usual last night. Hopefully he comes around and doesn't kick the bucket too. Thanks for the compliments kana3 and wife!
