I thought this forum needed a boost...

Show off your Bettas!

I can't get a pic of mine at the moment...

He's a blue/burgundy combtail with a black/tan head. He is really cute and has a huge personality.

My sister has a Betta in with her goldfish.

As much as my daughter has dagged me for several years, I've not bought one, as it'd clash with my S.American tank theme.

But we've often checked out the Males in the shop, and they always look such a woeful lot, all lined up in thier little prison cells. I've often wondered if this was any good for them...

here is a pic of a beta that i had. he was named 'ozzy' by my friends little girl, his partner was 'sharron' ofcourse.

he died after an unsuccessful atempt at breeding. i think the poor guy tired himself out by looking after his babies for 24 hrs a day for almost a week without eating much and was probably depressed when none of the babies survived. partly my fault for letting him breed in my large community tank with lots of other fish to eat the babies, doh.

he has been replaced with ozzy no2 that looks almost exactly like him. i have had ozzy 2 for ages now and have tried to breed him with sharron in a 10g breeding tank. unfortunately ozzy the second isnt very good at it. he is good at wooing sharron and she is up to make babies but when it comes to the actual act he holds her in an embrace and as she goes into the 'stunned' position he drops her instead of holding her and mating with her, silly fish that he is. after several unsuccessful attempts at breeding, i have given up trying to breed betas for the moment. both ozzy no2 and sharron are still alive and healthy and i will maybe try again with them another time.

anyho here is a pic of ozzy the 1st tending one of his nests not long before he died Crying or Very sad

Great shot Nick! Ozzie is very photogenic.

I don't dare show this pic to the Eldest, She'll start bugging me for one again!

I had a beautiful one named Sapphire. He looked a lot like Ozzy in the post above mine. Sadly, I didn't get any good pictures of him, and I found him dead this afternoon. I'm still shocked, I don't know what happened. I'm trying to decide whether to get another betta or try a school of neons or breeding guppies instead. This is for an established 10-gallon tank with 5 cories in it.

My female Betta:

I also used to have a male betta that was a wild strain betta. He was quite short finned and didn't have amazingly bright colours, but when he flared his fins, he was so beautiful. Here is a picture of him:

And here:

Both of them look like good healthy fish.

Were they in the same tank?

They were in the tank together for some time, because my Male betta got sick from eating bloodworms(They got clogged in his system), and the fish vet(Dr Greenwood at Canterbury vet clinic) said that since he is partly wild, the betta needs the stimulation of a female. So i got him 2 females, which didn't work, so he was seperated from both of them and remained happy for the rest of his life. One of the females died about a month ago and the other a week ago, from old age.

Here's my betta! He's a wal-mart fish... I don't condone buying wal-mart fish, but whenever I go to wal-mart I wander over to the pet section. When I looked at this betta, he light up and started dancing around (he was probably hoping for food) but it made me laugh and I ended up bringing him home.

He got an infection right away, but I treated it and he recovered from it quickly. Even though he's a 'mutt' I think he's awfully pretty Very Happy He looks a little bleached in this pic, but that b/c his tank was in front of a window then and the light was shining right through.

I love your male betta! he's lovely!

That pinky-orange look is unusual. I like it !

What's a 'Mutt'. I'm only familiar with the term for Dogs, and in Doctor Who and the Mutants, with Jon Pertwee.

well, a mutt probably isn't the correct term, but some bettas are specially bred to have certain colors and patterns... a 'crowntail' betta would be an example of one. with a small amount of searching I can find bettas like these for $50.

if you want to learna little more about their coloring,
