There are two species of Acanthius L155 (Acanthicus hystrix) and L193 (Acanthicus adonis) both fish are only suitable for large tanks as adult specimins are large and can become aggresive if not enough space is provided or there is to much competition for food
The L155 has some very impresive armour as they have spikes all over (think porcupine) that they are equiped with a set of interopercular spines which are more than capable of inflicting serious damage, trust me i know as i once went to transfer the specimin i have as with all large plecs it is a better idea to catch them by hand (so as not to risk damage to the gill plates with a net) no sooner had i got hold of the fish i let go my hand was bleeding it was like grabing hold of a lot of pins.
The common name comes from the filiment extensions of the tail

Temprature: 22 - 28 C / 72 - 82 F
Origin:South america (large rivers) from Panama to Brazil
Size: 10"
Breeding: Not reported in aquaria, and sexing is unknown
Feeding: Omnivour that will take most if not all prepared foods as well as live foods, the fish will gourge on meaty foods (bloodworm) Given chance the fish will eat huge amounts of food untill the belly swells, and are capable to live of this for a about a week

The Pimelodus blochii is a peacefull fish but can nip at tankmates of the same species, as with a lot of other catfish you should not mix with small fish, as if it will fit in the mouth then it can be eaten. The P.blochii locates its food or pray by smell and by probing with its antenna they especialy like worms. They are equiped with a spine (barbed) in the dorsal fin which is said to be poisonous. If there is a shortage of oxygen then the fish can/may change to surface breathing via an intestinal respitory system. The P.blochii likes to be provided with hidding places durring lights on
