Behaviour: A generally peaceful fish. Mid to upper level swimmer. Enjoys a densely planted aquarium. In a large tank, each will enjoy their own space, but will group and shoal for protection, as at night.
Feeding: Omnivorous. Dried food, Tubifex, water fleas, etc.
Reproduction: Egg laying, deposited on the leaves of plants. Females are plumper during the spawning period. As males tend to harass the female, it’s best to have several females to one male. Eggs hatch at approx 48 hrs.
Comments: Common name derived from the shape of the black stripe running down the body, and off down one caudal fin. The fishes also hang low at the tail, when hovering still.
