The Eheim 2213 Cannister Filter is to go on my small Breeding Tank. It has a throughput of 440 litres / 116 US gal. That's a tank cycle of about 10 times an hour. A tad high, so I'll need to place the pump outlet carefully. But I'm sure my Fry will enjoy the improved water quality.

Lot's of lovely accessories to play with. Note expecially the fully prepared Filter Medium - ready to go, straight out of the box! With five different Medium, counting the Carbon layer.

On the right, a new 100 watt Sera Heater. That's my 'backup' unit, for emergencies. With Fish Guard, that now comes as standard.

I've actually been eyeing off a 4' tank on the Neighbours back step. They're renter's, so I'm not sure if it's there to be thrown, or because it's not worth the effort to set-up.

I've just got no space! Our place is not very big. We're only just beginning to look at the prospect of moving in a couple of year's time. If it eventuates, I'll ensure I've got the space for a nice fish room then.

Housing cost's in the City are so ridiculous, if we moved to a country town, I could easily afford a South American fish room, a S.E. Asia fish room, an African fish room etc, etc. You get what I mean.

great filters the eheim 2213, i have 3, 2 on my rio 180 and 1 on my 10g tank. putting the sponge filter on the intake pipe as i metioned elsewhere slows the flow down a little bit in my 10g tank and i find that having the outflow pipe under the water, pointing up and to the back of the tank slightly, produces a nice flow of water around the tank without it being too much and breaks the water surface a bit for plently of oxygen. then agin if u fit ur spray bar under the water it will do kinda the same job. i dont use the spray bar on my small tank.

i have mine filled with ceramic tubes at the bottom, a filter pad and eheim substrat pro at the top. i dont bother with a fine filter pad as i find it gets clogged too quickly and needs washed or replaced too often or it slows down the flow too much. instead i just rinse the filter material about every 4-6 months. i have a bit of room left at the top of the filter for carbon if i want to use it but rarely do. this low maintenance method works for me.

lol@renters, i can relate to that. where i stay people are moving in and out all the time and leave crazy stuff out for the bin men. i have already picked up a 10g tank from my block, that someone didnt want, i gave that one to a friend tho. yesterday i noticed at the back door, before u get to the communal rubbish area, a really nice working kettle that some one was throwing out and it so happened that i needed another one, lol. aint karma good sometimes

Well, I've got a Eheim 2217 on my 250litre. And I guess the satisfaction with that, contributed to my getting another eheim. And that reminds me, it's due for a rinse out this month.

God knows how much muck is inside. Here's just six days worth of gunk from the Fish Guard only, on the 2217 Intake.



I actually installed the 2213 today. I was really worried that the pump may be too strong for the tank. And just churn the fish 'round and 'round.

I mounted the spray bar along the rear glass, and set it, so that the nozzles face into the rear glass, but slightly downward. It seems to have worked out well.

I'd forgotten about that Sponge over the Intake idea. Maybe if I think Fry are being sucked up, I may revisted it.

Well, the 2213 is working a treat. I can't remember the last time the water was so clear, even when I was doing 30% daily changes.

Here's a pic of one of the young 4.5 month old Bristlenose. For some reason they often sit there in the outflow from the 2213 spraybar. You can see in the reflection, the spraybar outlet holes, how they're facing down into the glass.
