I think we should really find some way to premote this place. I would love to see it grow to a big community. It would be fun, and really helpful to some people too!

That is one of the reasons why I made this site. Very Happy I too am trying to find a way to get more people to come. I have tried submitting this site to Google, but that hasn't worked yet. I also have the url in my signature on two different forums, but that has only brought in a few people. Maybe people can put a link in their signatures on other forums if they want to help. I put up a post about this site on the Hermit Crab Association and nobody seemed to mind. When I posted on Planet Catfish, some said that I shouldn't be advertising (but I got a few people to come). The only thing I can think of is for people to put up links where they can, especially people with their own websites. Does anyone have any other ideas?

I just noticed MSN search had this site on it! I am going to try to find other sites that have it. I tried submitting to many sites, I hope it works.

Well, I've finally got my LAN up and running, so I can devote some time to completing my Web Page.

As I plan to include my fish photos, I should be able to increase my Post rate with pics and info. I will also provide a link to this Forum.

Some Aquarium outlets I frequent have a pin board for Business Cards, etc. If I remember, I could put something up (one of those sheets with the tear-off strips).

I've found the other Forums to which I contribute are a bit too specialised for me to make frequent meaningful contributions. I thought I may make this site my prime Fish Forum.

And once we get a few 'meaty' topics going, people will get interested enough to join. That's sort of how I got into the others - a particular topic just 'caught' me.

If anybody knows any HTML coding or something, somebody could design a logo or something, and we could make a sort of banner link thing that people could put in signatures, blogs, stuff like that.

bettina:

Google and all search engines use a multitude of ranking factors. One of the things you can do to increase your rating is to have links to your site on as many different sites as possible... number of sites linking to you is a big factor.

I'd suggest having you and your moderators do some 'fish site' surfing. Make contact with hobbyists that have aquarium related sites...make friends...and have them link to you. Have whoever moderates "Cichlids" surf, bookmark, and contact Cichlid sites...whoever is moderating your catfish area do the same and so on.

It may not bring hundreds...but it's networking...and I'll bet it'll yeild some results.

I added a listing to the directory at Aquariumsite.org. And applied for a listing at some UK site (I forgot to bookmark!). I had a go at Fishlinkcentral, but it was knocked back for the obvious reason (now that I read above).

"Moderators"? What doth thou sayeth with thou strange words, Gary of the Peppers?

What would we do with a Cichlid Moderator anyway, when we can't even get any of our members out of the bloody Catfish section!? ...oooh, those little wiskers - so cute!... I'll be right back...

May I suggest that we utilise the View Unanswered Posts option occasionally (as I write this, there are 12). Add to those threads so that visitors actually get some content, and maybe decide to frequent. They will only return if they decide we have something to offer.

Atat may have had something with the HTML et al. I've posted some vague ideas re: Logo's. Perhaps we could try a new 'Skin'? Give this Forum it's own unique look, and remove that 'mass-produced' visage. That's something I'd certainly like to play around with.

It was tropicalfishfinder.co.uk where I left that reference.

I was just there, we're the second entry on page 1 of their Recommended Websites!

I was just on tropicalfishfinder.co.uk and when I clicked on the link to this site, it brought me somewhere else (microsoft.com). It is spelled correctlyin the link. Does this happen to anyone else?

Sorry, I did mean to mention that. Several of their links seem to be out, not just ours. I reported it to them via E-mail.

And I suspect we're up front, because their list is probably sorted reverse chronological.

And a side note, most occasions I login, there are usually one or two Guests online as well. "Come and join in!", I say.

She's great! Isn't She?

Bettina, I'm not sure if you explored Jonno's link above? It may be worth a shot. And I can see two ways to implement it. Have a squiz, and get back to me.

Would you like me to knock together a banner for this? Are we staying with the current Logo + coloring? I ask, because I feel it's important that the Banner and Logo are themed alike.

Yes, I made this site.
I've looked at Jonno's link.
I think we should stick with the current logo.
If you want to Kana3, you can put together a banner.
