I don't know which batch this is, possibly one of the December lots...
[above] This is my larger fry enclosure. I think these fry are at about the three week stage. You can see the flecked pigment. That dark shape above is a standard blue airstone (for scale - hem hem).
[above] This is probably the same batch at about the same stage. Note the difference in growth rate. I nearly always get this, no matter how much I feed. Generally there are 2 or 3 larger individuals. The small ones, like this little fella toward the right, usually don't make it.
This guy is about 4 or 5 weeks, I believe. He's not one of the advanced growth fella's from above. You can see that he really looks like a Cory now. |

Well I hope mine last long enough. I've lost about 10 of my Jan01 batch in the last day. I thought I was doing well to get past that 10 day mark with no casualties. |

They're certainly chomping into their tucker! Since I began providing food tablets rather than powder, it's easier to monitor the feeding rate. And it's gone up dramatically in the last few days, with little or no left-overs. |

Welcome aboard Gary! (Who was that blue-nostrilled man?)
The other fella you refer to (Plecs.) is actually Coryconfusion. It's got something to do with his superpowers or whatever. It's amazing, when he put's on his glasses, you can't tell He's the same guy!!! And that Lycra suit -
Fry food: I've been going through a "Sera" phase for the last two years. It's personal preference. I've experimented, and found what works for me. For Corys, I feed Sera Micron powder from 2 or 3 days after hatching. I supplement this with a liquid fry food (not sure of the brand), couple of drops every-so-often.
At about 2 weeks, if I'm satisfied with the growth rate, I begin to drop in one/half of a Sera Viformo tablet. Viformo breaks down very easily, and all my cory's love it. Once I'm happy the Viformo is being eaten, and no fry still need Micron, I feed more tablets, and supplement with Sera Mikropan - a larger grain powder food.
This get's me to about 4 weeks. I begin to introduce normal food. Pellets and/or wafers. Sera have another fry food, Microgran, which is a very small granule. I do have some, but haven't used it on the Cory's yet. I bought it for Guppy Fry, but it sinks a bit quick.
I feel some key elements are: The food must be an appropriate size. Use a Pestal & Mortar if you need to. You are far better over-feeding than under-feeding, but you must be prepared to clean up the left-overs, cleanliness is critical. And fine food clogs up the filter real quick, requires regular rinse outs in tank water. Spend some time observing, it helps you judge your feeding rate.
I've had my Cory's breeding for three years, and I'm still working out ways to improve on my outcomes. I've been applying ideas from Coryconfusion and others, and I reckon some of it's coming together. |

I had deliberately avoided mentioning that aspect, not wishing to cast dispersions on your Mother, for not teaching you to wear your undies on the inside. Besides, isn't 'Weenie Boy' only a side-kick?
I have heard so much about these Golden Pearls (note - we're now on a different topic), but my local outlets have no idea what I'm on about. |

Kana...
I knew that was CORYCONFUSISON aka dazusa aka....and so on.
Actually, he's making me a bit nervous with all those different personas. Particularly after the underpants comments. Ick.
(How's it going Darren?)
Seriously though guys...can you both hook me up with URLs for the foods you were talking about? I'm hatching BBS...and I freaking hate it! Can you say 'freaking' here? Ha.
URLs would be much appreciated! _________________ Like Fish Forums?

Aqua-Life: ???
I've been a fan of Tetra for quite a few years. And most people (+ me), think OSI's Shrimp Pellets are the go for Cory's.
If you're really worried about foods, buy the smallest container as a trial. And buy a variety. Buy a bigger tub when you establish that they like it. They say using a big tub over say, six months, makes the food stale. I keep my trial container, and repeatedly refill it from the big tub. Cheaper in bulk, and stays fresh. |

You're not kidding, he-of-a-thousand-names.
Ken's sponge filers are super reasonable. I'll have to order a few.
And Kana...
There are no retailers of Sara products anywhere near me. Might have to have some retailer far off ship me some.
Hey...look for my new post...
I swapped out my Cichlids today & set up my 55 gallon Cory tank - just 4 pandas in it right now...soon to be joined by 100 babies. _________________ Like Fish Forums?

Some of the Sera foods can be a tad on the expensive side, but the fish haven't knocked any back. Unlike Nutrafin, which they have repeatedly refused.
Anyhow, here's a rather shitty pic of Sera Viformo in with my 4 week old Corys. You can see the flecks as the tablet breaks down.
When I first looked in, there was a ring of little heads all around the tablet. I grabbed the camera, and the buggers all pissed off! So much for demonstrating how much they love it... |
