I've Cory Aeneus, but don't ask me how many - I have absolutely no idea!
The last batch I released at two weeks, and they're only now venturing out of hiding, at 4 weeks. I've 30 odd 4-5 week old Bristlenose in with them. It's quite something to see them sitting around together.
I collected about 300 Cory eggs yesterday off my Amazon Swords. I don't think they missed a leaf! I'll probably keep this lot secure until 4 weeks. Oh - it never stops! |

I love the little buggers the oldest fry are wizzing around,I had over 50 more hatch yesterday and have another huge cluster in the breeding net...
The palateus are nearly at breeding size and I just picked up a small group of albino aeneus tonight....
I have my bristlenose in a breeding tank hopefully will lay eggs and I'm waiting on my LFS to get more panaque maccus (clowns) so i can pick up a nice female to go with my male |

Well, it looks like the fellas' are not keeping thier end up (so to speak). A good 50% of those eggs I'd collected are turning white. Still - that leaves over 100!
I might raise this lot as a 'Trade-in' batch, swap them for some Dwarf Cichlids, or some small Pleco variety.
I'll probaly have to get rid of a few Bristlenose' tho', as they fight. With Cory's you can keep as many as will fit! I've had well over 60 in a 48x18 footprint.
Oop! - just took a look in the enclosure - I've got wrigglers!! |

I was having the same problem but after sticking my hands in and carefully removing the white eggs with my fingers so that any fungus couldnt spread the problem stopped....
If you want dwarf cichlids try one of the cockatoo species they have awesome colours and arent so common that getting rid of fry would be an issue... |

My white eggs are the unfertilzed ones. Because they're all grouped on individual leaves, it suggests the Males took a wrong turn. I've found that by the time fungus developes on Cory eggs, the good ones have already hatched. That's when I remove them (this morning for instance).
It's funny, my local Aquarium bloke also made mention of Cockatoo's. There's a Cichlid breeding outlet about 20 min drive, I may give them a visit as well, see what they've got. |

I have 4 peppered cories that lay eggs every 1/2 weeks. They were overdue for their egg laying this time, but they did it this morning and we got to see it (eeeewww...)
It's not the males fault that they aren't fertelized, its the female that caries the (you know what) around in her mouth and spits it out on the eggs. (double eeeewww.... ) *-* _________________

I understand the process, but you'd think the males have to be there sometime! Watching my males, I sometimes think they've lost the plot, hanging around the last placement of eggs loop de loop, while the female is long gone. Or chasing each other to the opposite end of the tank to where the female is.
I've even seen the female break for lunch, nibbling on a pellet with a clutch of eggs still held between her ventral fins.
I've a bit of video footage of the chase and laying, but buggered if I can figure out where the transfer takes place. You'd think there'd be a puff of cloud or something. |

Hey I had a weird spawn wondered if you have ever had the same, about 30 % of one of my recent spawns are totally black head to tail not the same as the others in the spawn |

I'm guessing they were the Peleatus?
I've only bred Aeneus, and haven't had any color variation. Although I've some very distinct body shapes. When I get organised, I plan to get pics of those distinct individuals (they're the 'named' ones).
I'm considering buying half a dozen af another variety. I had Metae once upon a time, but haven't seen any recently. It's a bit of a lottery as to what's available in the outlets. |

I've had several Corys for some years now, and never seen them spawn. Granted, they are in a community tank with some larger fish, and I don't have any live plants. Just out of curiousity, what kind of conditions do they like for spawning? _________________ 29 Gallon Freshwater with some Silver Dollars and other Tetras |
