Well, every fish I'd ever kept with the exception of Angels & Plecos have spawned.

As of today I can cross off Angels. Here are a couple pics.

This afternoon, it appeared that about 30% or so were white therefore infertile. That number has gone up since then. Hopefully we'll get some to hatch. They haven't eaten any as far as I can see which is encouraging.

They've been together since the male (the one making a pass over the eggs in the pic) was about quarter sized and the female was about dickel sized.

As far as time goes - no I don't have a bunch of it. That's why I'm not stealing the eggs & hatching them myself with meth blue. That's also why I'm going to try my friends trick and using 50 micron Golden Pearls instead of BBS when they do hatch. She's been raising angels on it for years. I did use them for my cory fry with success, too. I also have some HBH fry food which is pretty much dust.

As for water changes - Between me and my kid who will do about anything for a dollar...I have it covered Very Happy

At least I think that should all work. We'll see. No doubt IF they hatch, I'll have smaller hatches than I would if I had more time to tend to them.

Excellant results so far, Gary.

My couple seem to be in perpetual courting, so no laying as yet.

Oh well...

Day 2 when I went to bed it looked as if more were white. When I woke up - they'd eaten them. Sheep! (Ask clunkster if you don't get the joke)

The bright side is that I have a young pair - and that they tended to the eggs for two full days - guarding & fanning them...so odds are they'll be good parents when they figure it out.

I've gotten all other fish out of their 20 high and put in a spawning slate. (Home made by the way - I'll post pics)

I'm also stepping up their water change schedule to match that of the Discus tank - which is at least two - sometimes three per week...so that should help.

So Angel people...how often do Angels spawn? What induces? When might they try again? Any tricks or triggers you can share??

Thanks!

sorry too hear that mate Sad But as you say you have a young pair, so finngers crossed they will work it out Wink Your probley on the right track with having them in on their own, and giving them good water quality, but i bet they dont lay the next batch of eggs on the slate Twisted Evil

I didn't figure. They need to get used to it - and I understand even after that they may or may not ever use it.

You should see it, though. Cut it all nice with a wet saw. It has a nice rounded to and a base to hold it up and the whole bit. Would be a shame if they don't use it eventually.

This is the same treatment I get from my Keyholes. A day or two of guarding & caring, white eggs, then nothing.

That's the thing ---

Because of my job I often don't get to come home. I'm in a hotel 200 miles away right now.
