I'm offically a Cory groupie I guess.

I just traded in some very nice Cichlids for driftwood, some java ferns, blackwater extract & some panda Corys.

Loved the Cichlids...but needed the room since my paleatus started spawning. I'll have to have space for 106 babies to grow soon.

Anyway...I'm going to add three or four Aneaus soon...and one other species...I'm not sure but I'm thinking davidsandi. Any other suggestions?

Here's the tank in its new form...

And here's a few shots of one of the four new pandas...

The Panda's look good. They remind me of the C.metae I used to have. Now, in your tank, is that the Baghdad Housing Estate I saw over at Planet Catfish?

A Cory I've really liked the look of, was that on the cover of David Sands 'A Fishkeeper's Guide To South American Catfish'. Apparently it is C.lamberti.

Plec:

Say it ain't so! Why? Does that mean you won't be in all the fishy forums anymore? Geez.

Secondly...Are you adept at shipping Corys? If so..I might take a few off your hands.

But most importantly...stay on the boards.

Kana:

What's the Baghdad Housing Estate? Fill me in.

I'm still keeping on the boards and my forum just minimizing big time wife is having a 20 with her guppies and mollys....and maybe another 20...
we might keep a few corys but that would be it....Mainly due to space and time.... bearded dragon is gonna need a new tank and wife is going to nursing school soon and i'll be working when she gets home so time to do anything is gonna be non existant
wouldnt even risk the shipping mate its been below freezing here (is right now) and by the time you pay shipping its just not worth the money for a few corys...
but dont worry i'll still be here

Sorry Gary, I should have said PanaqueDriftwood et al. Under "My DIY Cichlid Landscape". As to the 'Baghdad' reference, that was obviously my very poor attempt at humour! Haven't you watched any world events over the past 15 years?

When we tore the guts out of our bathroom, we put a sign up "Baghdad Renovations" (and a little sketch of Saddam). Even my 10 yr old (at the time) knew what it meant!

Anyway - back to topic. Why in hell did go through all that effort for your Cichlids, and then give them away?

And on a more personal note, you guys should add your location to your profile details. I always think it's nifty to know I'm chatting to someone in Timbuktoo, or where ever.

Kana:

Yeah...that's the one I posted on Darren's board I think.

Why? Well, it was fun to do...and I had no intention of trading them in when I did it.

Reality set in when my paleatus spawned 4 times in five days. I now have 106 week old fry - I have a batch of 76 hatching right as we speak...and my paleatus are going at it again right this minute. If history repeats...I'll get several days of spawning and a hundred plus more eggs.

I needed the space for the little buggers to grow up in. Loved the Cichlids a lot - but I love Corys more - and since I have very limited space for additional tanks...it was really my only choice.

Now I have Pandas, Habrosus (in their own 10), paleatus - and I'll have two more species in the big one soon, too. How cool will that be? I'm pretty excited.

I should end now...I have to go down to the basement & yell "Grow, dammit!" at the fry.

Be back later.

By the way...added my location. And YOUR location is someplace I intend to visit - it's my wife's dream vacation. (And I'd like it too)

Excellant pics! And excellant results. My previous few batches haven't had the best survival rate. But the current lot is by far an improvement. Plenty of fresh clean water, and less food waste, seems to be the key.

It's strange, my earlier inexperianced batches faired better than my later ones. Maybe I just got complacent (or cocky more likely!).

It's a pity the LFS' don't take fish until a certain size, you could've swapped some for more Cichlids (hem hem)! Anyway, the ol' growth hormones kick in, at about the third week, then off they go.

I like how you can see the pigment in your fry, looking like C. paleatus allready! Certainly a contrast to my C. aeneus at the same age. Pity you're not down the road, to do swaps!

Were you thinking of Australia in general, to visit, or Melbourne in particular?

Oh yeah...Meant to say this too...

I will get some pictures of this soon...and it's probably old hat to you, but I think it's soooo cool...

After I feed them live brine shrimp, you can see their full little transparant bellies turn orange. Pretty neat.

You can sort of see that kind of in one of the fry pics above...but I'll get better ones.

Hear that? I'm an interesting person! [cocky swagger]

Now, how does it go again?...

Gidday Cobber! Pull one up Mate, and crack a tube. I'm as dry as a dead Dingoes donga'!

Well, I can tell you that Melbourne is very similar to Boston. Personally, I think cities are cities. It's the country and landscapes where you see something different from home.

..anyway, Oscar asked if anyone wanted to go in the pool. I said 'I didn't bring my Kosciusko!' The guys by this time were getting into the Cricket, called the toss, and decided to let Wombat. I was getting sick of this. I said 'Let's goAnna'. 'I'm not going 'til Dingoes!', she said...

It's not so much the CITY...it's the culture.

The attitude...the people...the beer...and the beer. And don't forget beer.
[smilie=rk01_beviamocisu.gif]

And seriously...other than the brits...the only ally to the US worth a **** on the entire globe!

Never really been one for Beer. Now, if you have a bottle of Scotch...(or two!)

I must ask you what sort of camera you use? I have a Minolta 7000 SLR that I don't use much now. I'm busting for a digital SLR. Am currently using a couple of Canon 5Mp Digitals. But am still coming to grips with the Focus and Depth of Field on those machines. I prefer my Minolta, but film's quite expensive, and fiddly these days.
