This is 'Silver Wing'. He's (she?) the boss of my 250 litre tank. He gets first nibble at any food. And maintains a boundary around himself. I can only remember one other fish standing up to him. That was 'Tiger', another Angelfish. When the two of them really began to beat the crap out of each other, we gave Tiger away.

We replaced Tiger with 'Star', another young Angelfish. But Star is now mature enough to be a target for Silver Wing's aggression. Star however, doesn't fight back, and spends most of her time hiding in the corner behind some plants.

I thought I'd try an experiment here. Rather than give Star away, I opted for two additional young Angelfish. Enter Shadow, and Charcoal. I figure that once they mature, Silver Wing will have his hands (fins?) full, and any aggression will be diluted.

But Charcoal is cocky. I reckon I might have another young 'Tiger' there!.

i bought two small angels a couple of weeks ago, a nice marbled one and a black and silver one. unfortunately the silver one didnt survive more than 24hrs. thankfully i have a good relationship with the shop that i got it from and they promised to replace it for me. when i went to the shop the small angels werent looking too healthy so they gave me a medium sized one at no extra cost.

the one i choose looks very similar to the one in ur pic. the 1st night i was worried as it didnt eat but the next day it settled in and was eating ok and the smaller marble one buddied up with it and took it for a tour of the tank. a week or so later they both look very healthy and follow each other about the tank. thankfully they get on unlike urs.

up to this point i wasnt realy a fan of angels. i thought they were all show and no content but i was wrong. these guys are not only hadsome but have great personalities, swim about lots and are a pleasure to observe

My Eldest has just pointed out that I've got the names wrong above, so I've just edited that. 'Moon-Glow' was a silver / white Angel we bought, that only lasted a few days. Maybe there's a weakness in that color strain? I still prefer the normal black stripe on silver arrangement.

I once had an Angel called 'Lucky 13', because on one side, the center body black stripe, was broken and mishapen. It formed a '3'.

That's very good about the replacement. I've had one Aquarium do that for me. The two young ones I mentioned earlier, it was like they had never changed tanks. You know it's said to put in a bit of food to distract the other fish, well these two were right into it, shoving other fish out of the way!

I know a couple of people who screw their nose up at Angels, But I like Cichlid behaviour, even Angels, who are a bit more agressive than the Dwarf Cichlids I'm keen on. Here's some pics of Silver Wing, and Star.



Silver Wing is actually a bugger to get a side on picture. Every time I go near the tank, he rushes over into my face, for a feed. It takes ages until he settles down. Usually I wait for him to start chasing off the other fish, but even then, he's a quick mover. I have lot's of 'Silver Streak' pics!! (There are hint's of those here).

Something I've just thought of...My Angels are incredibly tolerant of the Catfish. The Keyholes however, won't have a bar of the Cory's!

Here's a couple of pics with Charcoal and Shadow. Charcoal is the larger. It's taken me a while to get to this posting, because it's so bloody difficult to capture a black fish! So, I've just gone with it. Shadow has some silver, Charcoal is pure black. Magnificent looking fish, I hope this pic gives some indication of that. Still very young, is going to be huge when he/she matures.



To throw back to earlier in this topic... The group Dynamics have altered somewhat. Silverwing is nowhere near as aggressive as he was before these two came along. He only mildly chase's off Star now, and Star even stand's ground, and pushs back. And the two are always together.

Silverwing will chase off the other two, Charcoal and Shadow. They don't chase anyone. Star will only chase Silverwing. But wether I was on the right track or not, things are more peaceful with the extra Angels.

I have always heard with angels, like any other cichlid that is kinda hard to sex, start with a crap load of yougins, and wait for two to pair off, then remove the rest, and that way you don't have any broken angels, just breakin other fish when they bread haha. Just my .02

When they bread, huh ? Fish & Bread, I seem to remember somewhere that that's been done....

I think Monkeh was saying the same thing, about letting the group pair up. My current lot are getting on extremely well right now. I had a pair years ago, that literally fought to the death. They used to wake me up at night, thumping around in the tank. And I mean 'thumping', these weren't splash sounds !

A friend of mine phoned me two nights back. He has two young Angels that are demolishing his plants, ripping them right out of the gravel. So they'll be joining my four, shortly. I might just go pick them up tomorrow...

Bread haha, sounds like midday meal! I love cichlid personality they are the freaking greatest, Right now my Midas wich is a cross between a Midas (wich in itself consist of several different species of sa and ca cichlids)and a Red Devil, has killed a big Texas Cichlid, and an oscar, and I am pretty sure has eaten two of my Buenos Aires Tetras used to have 6 now i have 4, but will let a 2 inch convict actually in his hidy hole, he will dig up plants, move rock out of the middle and spit them up to the sides, full of character! He is getting his own tank by himself befor he gets any bigger. And i have heard angels are little characters too. Never kept them myself though. How big is your tank kana? With that many Angels, you will probably get a breeding pair, but they will terrorize the rest unless they gots lots o room.

The tank is 250 litre. 4'x18"x18". Planted to the eye-balls.

It's no big deal if they don't get on. Since I've had fish breeding, It becomes easier to take fish into the shop. Large Angels bring good trade-in value too.
