Bettina, I've been stuffing about on my Test Forum. As near as I can tell, modification of an existing Theme through the Admin functions is very limited. Color shades can be altered. Images such as shaded Header / Footer bars, can be switched on / off, but not substituted. I haven't had any success with Fonts as yet.
It seems possible to translate the color scheme of one Theme, onto the Page Layout of another. But unfortunately if the Layout Theme has Background images, more often than not, they cannot be removed, and often clash with the color scheme.
It also seems to be the case that any blank fields in an original Theme Edit, are not referenced by the Theme at all. eg, If you enter a value, it will remain unused. And I trashed my Acid Theme, and am unsure how to repair it!
I haven't played with a PC downloaded Theme yet. But if we're unable to upload a Theme direct into our Forum (or via ForumUp - they have 'rules'), we may have to settle for minor modifications only. Designing a Theme from scratch (although I'd built on an existing one), is a longer term goal.
Still plenty to read in thier FAQ & User Guides tho'... It would have helped if some of it was translated into English by someone who actually spoke it! That may be a good retirement career, translate Internet English into Real English!
Again, feel free to experiment on my Test Forum. (I think I sent you the address?). It'd save Aquatic Babble suffering from multiple personalities.

I'm guessing that some Themes don't have a Logo image. The Logo you see on-screen, is part of the entire backdrop. I suspect this is why you always get an error, when trying to replace with your own logo (you cannot replace something that's not there!).
It's really bugging how you get something work on one Theme, but it won't work on the 'preferred' Theme.
Here's the 'Acid' Babble Logo.
It's a tad larger than the white version. If you decide you'd like it re-sized or you prefer it 'a bit to the right', etc, just let me know.

The new logo works fine.
I think some of the skins don't have a logo, but the reason it wasn't working for me was I had the wrong thing typed in the box. I had to have templates/Acid/images/mylogo.gif typed in for the acid logo. But if you just copy and paste the image location, it has some more words in front. I just deleted the extra words.

That's strange. I haven't come across those extra words.
I've been working through all of the ForumUP Themes. So many of them do not allow any decent customisation. As I've said elsewhere, the Forums are design to be implemented on a Third Party Host, where you can modify to your hearts content. ForumUP let you play with the basics, and host you for free, so you essentially get what you pay for!
I think you did very well, selecting 'Acid' straight up. It's one of the few Themes that is simple to adjust. I was looking at my Logo up there. We should adjust one of the Blues, so that the Logo matches the Page Text. It's easy enough to replace the Logo, or you could adjust the 'Link Colour' Field to 0069B3.

Bettina,
If you could pop over to the

, and give me some guidance with some of the visuals? Let me know if I'm going in the right direction, or tell me what you'd like changed.
I've actually made quite a bit of progress in terms modifying layouts. Although there are a many elements that I've discovered and tested, but haven't finalised their implementation as yet.
I've reverted to the 'subSilver' Theme. It's very adaptable. You'll note I've been able to change over the Title Bars. I've also been able to replace almost any Graphic on the page. eg, 'Profile', 'New Topic', 'New Post', etc. The trick is being able to replace multiples, I think I can do it, but I'm only up to '2', so far.
I had the idea of having 'Bubbles', or 'Splashes', to indicate Rank. I'll post a sample or two (when I create some) in the 'Rank' Topic shortly. I'm able to alter the color of the Avatar Rank text, against each rank (but not the User Name).
I popped in a counter just for the fun of it. It seem's to work. It's calibrated to ignore my visit's. And it also seems to ignore 'web-bot' visits (which seems to account for most 'Guests' on-line!).
I can alter text, but there are 'catches' to doing that. There are a few inter-dependicies between elements on the page, so alterations need to take those into account. But I'd need to explain those probaly individually.

I've been looking at the test forum every now and then. I like the picture where it says category one, live foods, etc. Are you able to place the counter and the links for aquatic babble at the bottom? At the very last box, where it says who is online, there are two background pictures on the bar. Can they be made into one long one? The fancy text is also nice.
I was playing around with a webpage maker a few months ago. I made a webpage but it never got anywhere. I was trying to make a forum, and ended up using forumup instead of bravenet. My webpage is

I have the same counter at the bottom that you are using.

Those Catagory labels are very easy to insert.

No, I can't alter anything else below that point, except the three icons (no & new posts, and locked). But would you want a link to Aquatic Babble, from Aquatic Babble?

No problem. That was both a test and discovery of how those Bars work. You'll note the parallel gaps above? A separate graphic is normally used there. Do you like those Bars? FishyPaw took that pic! It spoke to me, "put me on the bar!", it said!

Easy done, but there are some 'rules' to follow in application. It's 'Monotype Corsiva'.

I had a look, that's a fabulous front page! The Forum engine looks like crap tho'. What we need is someone to finance a Host Site, where we can run the phpBB Forum software, and overlay your front page.
