I'm wondering if maybe I could selectively breed these as 'Balloon Cory's'. Give those Mollies a run for their money! This is the second Cory I've had in this shape.

Shocked

Wow. I know you're Australian...so I'm hoping you get the reference...

It looks like a Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon.

Odd stuff.

Speaking of oddities/deformities...I noticed one of my younger fry is slightly "c" shaped...and tends to swin in a semi-circle. Have you seen this before?

Yeah, I vaguely remember seeing it on some TV show or Film. It's funny how the media affects you. When I stayed in Boston a few years ago, one of my very first thoughts after leaving the Airport, and looking around was "Wow this place is just like on some movie/show!".

And it was probaly stuff you'd take for granted, but little things - Architecture, the Motor Vehicles, the way Home Gardens are layed out, little Flags on the houses, etc. I was a bit irked that I left two days before Halloween, I was really looking forward to scaring the crap out of some kids! One of you Guys will have to explain the origins / meaning of Halloween to me one day. All I've seen is the 'Charmed' version!

Ok - Fish... You'll get used to the deformities, once you're breeding, you'll see a few of them. Some make it, some don't. Most seem to be spinal. I had a Guppy that was shaped, from the side, like '^\/\'. (^ is the head) The good thing about those that do survive, is that it's easier to give them names! But how do you know it's a defect? Evolution! You've just created the first of a whole new species!!!

Now would you credit it? Less than 24 hrs after I post my Balloon Cory, I get this! No, She's not dead - they're eggs between her Ventral Fins. I can hear those phones ringing already! Sorry it's a tad fuzzy, She was really on the move this morning.

Not Evolution, selective breeding.
Like dog breeding.

But still, I think this could be cool.
I bet lots of people would buy them!

Somehow I think that there may be a downside, but I can't think of it right now.

I love her! I like the first pic!

Here's a downside for you...

How the heck does she hold the eggs in her fins? They don't look like they can touch. Does she just lay them directly on the plants or whatever?

Maybe Fishercat, but some (probably just me really!) may argue that Nature does exactly the same thing. For example, 'We' keep undesirable traits from continuing, by excluding them from that genetic pool (Pop them in another tank).

Nature keeps undesirable traits from continuing, by excluding them from that genetic pool (pop them in the belly of another fish!). Maybe it's a toss-up between 'perspectives', and 'symantics' ?

She can actually close her Pelvic Fins. Unfortunately that photo was just after she'd placed some eggs. I wish I could get that damn Video loaded! I haven't seen her Caudal (tail) fins open often tho'. But you're right Fishercat, She does have 'character'.

And She needs to get it together with the Boy's. I would have collected close on 500 eggs, but with most of them going white, I may only get 5 - 10% hatching. But yeah, it'd be interesting to see if there are any 'Pot-Bellies' in the batch.

I've finally got around to preparing the video I took that morning she was laying (and she was actually laying again THIS morning!).

Sorry, this video is pixelated for some reason. It's ok on my machine, but after I upload, it's crap - and I've re-loaded it 4 times!...
