Just noting your backdrop. Where can you find "blue freshwater", like that?

No, I mean in Nature !

I've only ever seen it with Marine shots. I gather it's the same principle as the blue haze you have around mountains. Caused by the high Oxygen content.

Not to say freshwater isn't highly oxygenated. It's just usually carrying a lot of silt. A problem that is steeped in having the water surface in such very close proximity to the bottom.

If, however, someone can come up with a freshwater example, I would be interested.

for backgrounds i prefer matt black or dark blue.

i have snorkled in Scottish rivers and u do get quite a light blue background sometimes depending on conditions. Maybe in the future i will get to set up a 10 foot Scottish river tank with some nice brown trout in it, and then try and avoid the temptation of catching and eating them

Lake Tahoe. I'm taking a punt, North America. Up as far as Canada or Alaska perhaps?

Looks exactly like the sort of place I'd enjoy visiting. I note the diver has a full suit (incl. over head). Nice and thick too, I bet. No gloves?

Must be largely a sand, pebble, and rock substrate. A lot of rounding, indicates much movement in the past. No finer particles to have suspended in the water. That can be an indicator of high elevation. Even so, I don't think that diver is all that deep, and visibility's not that brilliant (photography not with-standing).

I'm the same Fishy, I feel the dark background brings out the colors of the Plants and Fish. If you went snorkling in any of my local rivers, the best you'd be able to see, was wether it was daylight or not, maybe. . . At 1 foot you wouldn't see your hand until it blacked out your visor.

Lake Tahoe is on the border of California and Nevada. It's a 30-45 minute trip for me. Elevation is 6225' at the surface. Here is some info

Neat! My Geography was a bit of a wash out, but my Geology was on the mark. So half points there.

75 feet is a fair visibility depth. I guess the waters fairly drinkable straight up? Do they allow motor boats, jet ski's, etc?

I suppose living so close, you never bother to go over there much. And if you did, it'd be full of bloody tourists anyway?

In the summer time its packed with people. You really can't drive down the roads because people park part way in the lanes. I do go up there for the 4th of July to watch the fireworks.

Only specific and certified boats and jet skis are allowed. They even hound the homeowners around the lake to keep the dirt covered by vegetation or other means as to not muddy the water.
