they can grow back. the main worry is that the tail gets infected, but if the water conditions are ok and the guppy is free from the stress of being attacked it should be ok in time.
treating with methylene blue would help stop infection. u can either treat the tank or the fish. the latter is not easy to do and involves using a q-tips or similar to swab the fish.
good luck. _________________ 6 tanks from 40g - 6g

I took the culprit out and he is awaiting sentencing, so no more attacks, and the tank is healthy i am not worried about infection. I have alway kept cichlids, and there tails always grow back with out any problems but i have never delt with this in livebearers so i figured i would ask. _________________

We've had the odd split tail, and they seem to grow out, so I guess the tails are always growing.
It probably has to do with how far down the loss goes. I have a Cory with just a stub for her pectoral fin, as the problem reached the base of the fin before healing. _________________ Angels, Black Mollies, Bristlenose', Clown Loaches, Cory Aeneus, Gibby, Guppies, Hockey-stick Tetras, Keyhole Cichlids, Otocinclus. |

I reckon a lot of the Males are just not up to it anyway.
When the kids started out, it took us about 3 Males before we got one that lasted more than a few days.
Even watching the Guppies throughout their whole life, I'm fairly safe in saying, the Females last up to 150% of the lifespan of a Male. _________________ Angels, Black Mollies, Bristlenose', Clown Loaches, Cory Aeneus, Gibby, Guppies, Hockey-stick Tetras, Keyhole Cichlids, Otocinclus. |

do you think that this could be due to the constant in-line breeding/cross breeding ? or hybridisation of the species to the extent that they have created a problem ? _________________ the only stupid questions are the ones you dont ask

that is prob the cause, everybody breeds for the colorful males, and we all know what inbreeding does. _________________
