I read that as the body is swollen. Possibly upper abdominal, if the head is facing upward.

Clunkster is correct, it's so damn easy to pick the problem from a picture. I'm not actually familiar with that fish.

* Are we talking whole body swelling, or just a bump?

* Are the scales protruding, or standing up?

* Is the fish having difficulty maintaining it's position? eg, is it 'floating' upward toward the surface?

* How's it's appetite?

But here's some likely culprits: Dropsy, Tumour, Swim Bladder disorder, Worms.

Does it resemble this ? I suspect this was a bloated stomach (gas).

sorry, computers been out of action.
it seems a bit more rounded than that and certainly not inflamed like the above. it does have some white spots on its side now. im wondering if its worms or a tumour breaking through. am trying to get pictures.

sorry about pics, not that good at computers and couldnt work out how to post. my forktail died yesterday. i read with interest the euthanasia stuff cause im sure she would have had pain with such abdominal swelling. i really struggle with this as i cannot cause anymore pain and suffering myself and am practically buddist when it comes to killing anything!!
