This Thread is for you to write your comments on any of the 'Skins' that are being afflicted on Aquatic Babble at the moment.
And remember, it's not just a matter of having 'pretty' colors, Ease of Reading, and Ease of Functionality, are just as important.
So, if you login, and experiance a 'Skin', please have a good explore around, and try things out. Then pop in here and share your thought's.
If you don't experiance one here, there are Demo's available at PhpBB.com, and ForumUp.org, for you to view. Although I don't believe you can navigate beyond the main Index page...
Your feedback will aid Bettina in selecting a 'look' for Aquatic Babble, that is conducive to us all. Don't forget to "name" the Skin you're reviewing.

Glass2 skin.
Nice greeny blue for the 'glass' color. Too much contrast however, with the black background. It's difficult on the eyes, to focus on the screen detail. It may be ok with a faded light blue background.
The Text Area separation lines in the normal skin, are not all visible here. Title text in the Index and Topic lists, doesn't seem as easy to read.
Small Control Buttons are not readily visible, you need to search the screen for them, even though you know they're there. Private Message controls are very obscure.
A big thumbs down . I don't like it!
I just edit this in...It may be just me, but the Forum seems slower this morning. Delays in changing screens, and displaying images, and so forth. Might be worth watching for that...

Wasn't this one of the skins you suggested earlier? Well, that's okay. I'm having fun testing the styles. I think the fish one looked nice, but it had marine fish. I also had one called SoftBlue that looked nice. If you go here

If 'Glass2' was 'Cyan Glass', it probably was one I'd suggested. But I think that supports my warning above, It's not just a case of 'pretty colors'. (I did like that 'glass' color itself - but on black, it's just 'too much'!).
It'd be nice if we end up with shades of Green's / Blue's. I think it'd reflect the Water / Plants' look of an Aquarium. The Fish side of things, can come into it through Logo's, Ranks?, Recent Post markers, and such.
I like the one that's up now. Don't know the name, but it's shades of light blue, and has "Your Logo" written at top-left.

That was the SoftBlue. I think it's nice, but I'm still trying to get the logo into the Your Logo space. I tried acid, but it reminds me of an algae bloom.
Now I figured out how to get the logo up. I fooled aroung with it for a while and it worked!

I've just been back over to PhpBB. I think overall, the 'wide' Skins are better, as they don't cramp the text too much. The default (normal) Skin 'SubSilver' is wide.
If you decide to use my Logo, I guess I'll need to re-do the white background, to match the new Skin.

Yeah, I believe it can be done. I've done it for specific applications (ten years ago!)...I'll see what I can come up with. Off to get the kids from School now...
Uh, see how this goes...I'm uncertain if it's right, difficult to test it without a test environment!
Hmmm...getting there. Need to work on the Anti-Aliasing of those grey bits... use an Alpha Channel Mask..."More POWER Igor!!!"

Acid skin.
I could probably get used to it. I like the subtle greens, with the blue text. All of the controls are placed where you expect them. They're visible, and recognisable.
I don't mind the hint of Yellow and Orange in the Control Buttons, but I feel it's a bit strong in the Header/Footer Bars that cross the page. If we could isolate & modify that particular graphic, that'd be swell!

Well, It was a test of the GIF89a Export Module, wasn't a final version, so I dumped it straight across as was.
In answer to your second Post, Well, It was a test of the GIF89a Export Module, wasn't a final version, so I dumped it straight across as was. The grey is the Anti-aliasing probably not compatible the GIF Module, at least the way I used it. I know it can be done, I've done it, but a bloody long time ago!
If we had a particular theme now, I could whip up a 'seamless' Logo in seconds. I'd sample the background straight off the screen, and plonk it where the white was. (hmmm, got so caught up in all this stuff, I've just realised my MP3 has been playing the same song for an hour and a half! Time for some Nik Kershaw I think...).
Here's a 1/2 size Acid version: uh-oh...
No, belay that, my Host site is down for maintenance today (I wonder if that knocks all my pics off-line?)

Oh I have the Graphic, I just can't upload it to my Host Site.
If you're in any real hurry, I could e-mail to you. But I expect I could get it through in 24hrs (how long can a Host Site afford to be off-line anyway?).
