These 'Tropical Crisps' have recently come on the market here. They are a very lightweight paper-thin wafer.

When you sprinkle them on the water, about half float, half sink. They take up to 30 seconds to sink in 18 inches of water. So everyone gets a shot at them.

Apart from my Suckermouths, who are hiding anyway, I haven't seen a fish turn them down. Angels, Keyholes, Guppies, Tetras, and Cory's, all love the stuff.

Over the last two years, I've been working through the 'Sera' range. But I've used Tetra a lot in the past, especially the 'Bits'. Have also used 'Hikari' from time to time, particularly the Catfish & Sinking Wafers.

The OSI Shrimp pellets are a favourite of the Cory's. But lately I've been using Aqua-Life Vegetable Pellets. The containers are twice the size of the OSI stuff, at half the price! Fish food is getting so expensive these days!

I never realised until now just how much I use the Tetra foods. Right now My main food is the same one Kana is using, except in the UK its called Tetrapro, I also feed the 2 other foods in the range called pro Colour (the khuli's go mad for this one) and pro Vegatable. I also feed Tetra Prima, Tabimin and Plecomin on a rotation so the fish seem to be getting different stuff to eat.

Other foods I feed them with are frozen blood/black/white worm, daphnia and brineshrimp and I feed cucumber, potato and spinach for the bristlenose, but everything else likes to attack it as well.

i hadnt seen tetra crisps here, but this is probably due to the fact that it has a diferent name as Monkeh points out.

my fish food at the moment - this is gonna be a biggish list, but i do like to give my fish as much variety as i can Smile

in the Tetra range i use ...

Tetra prima (granules, good for all level feeding and can be powdered if need be)

Tetra ruby (colour enhancing flakes)

Tetra algae wafers

TetraMin baby (powdered food, good for babies but i also grind down my own flakes and pellets to powder which works just aswell)

... over here there is a good range of foods by a company called 'King Britsh' that tends to be a bit cheeper than Tetra. i currently use ...

King Britsh tropical fish flake (good all round flake)

King Britsh catfish pellets (the staple diet of my corys)

King Britsh mini pellets (another fav of the corys)

King Britsh algae wafers (high protein algae wafer with spirulina that my plecs love)

King Britsh plectostomus tablet food (all cats love these as do all the others. i sometimes stick half a tab to the glass and the tetras go wild for it)

King Britsh bloodworm (dried treat for surface eaters)

King Britsh tubiflex (dried but when rubbed between my fingers in tank water lots of worms disperse about the tank and are eaten by most fish. corys adore it)

Waterlife artemia shell-less (shell-less brine shrimp eggs that fry love to eat as is but can also be hatched to provide fresh baby brine shrimp)

my bristlenoses get courgette/zuckini occasionaly. i havent tried cucumber, spinach or potato yet but i will need to give them a try.

i also occasionaly use bought live foods but not often as i worry that this could lead to the indroduction of disease.

i agree that food is getting dearer but being a frugal Scotsman i often swap my home bred guppies for food which saves me a lot of money Smile

After that original post, I actually had trouble getting my hands on more, for a couple of months.

I recently found another supplier, and since there's only about 15mm left in the tin, I guess it's time to give them a visit.

I'm learning, that when you find a good product like this, you go for the BIG tin !

And something else, watching my Angels. I begin dropping in food, they sort of dart across, but when they see what it is, they lose interest. The buggers are waiting for these Crisps !! They won't even consider anything else, until the Crisps are consumed, or I close the lid without issuing any.

Laughing Who says fish cant remember ? They obviously have a preferance for the crisps, not sure if my fish will turn there nose up to other foods in preferance to the crisps, as i have only just started using them, and i try to varie what i feed my fish as i dont want them to only eat a particular food, just in case they either stop producing it or i struggle to get hold of it

Well, I know for sure, that this stuff won't be left lying in the tank.

That makes it a good post meal snack treat as well.

I have to agree, I use to get little 4 and 6 Oz. bags of the hikari cichlid sticks and algae waffer till I saw that the supplier sold 2 and 4 pound bags of the these products. Now a days I buy in bulk. It saves money and the trouble of having to go out and try to find the stuff. I think I'll try those crisps since I've seen them untouched at the LFS.

I mix everything together so the fish get a little of what they want and a little of what they need. I have changed my fishes diet since reading cichlid commanders post. I feed them every other day now.

I've got a post pending, going over what I have in the larder. But I generally have a good mix on the shelf, so that each day is slightly different.

'Tetra' actually have a mixed tin, with four varieties of flakes, that you dial by rotating the lid. Although I'll probably won't go with that one again. It didn't seem that popular with my little mouths.

I've read that having a large tin of food, is not good for long term use, as the food ages. Especially if constantly being opened. What I do, is keep my smaller tins, and refill them every-so-often from the large tins, hopefully maintaining the freshness.

But I agree with the Commander, buying in bulk is the way to go $$$ wise.
