I recieved a few bundles of a plant from my friend's tropical aquarium. I was trying to find what they were when my friend told me she got them from a nieghbor's cold water pond, and they adapted to tropical waters. They have leaves coming at about 1/4 inch intervals, in fours. They do not root well, but can grow to massive lengths if not kept in check. Mollies enjoy eating their leaves and when I plant the clippings in my aquarium, instead of the clippings growing, little peices start branching off, creating their own roots.

I'll try to get a picture of them in with my next post

As I said in my previous post, I would get a picture. So I did. It's a little blurry, but at least you understand what I'm talking about, this is one of its branches:

Well after I fogged up my spec's a bit to improve the image....

Maybe:

Elodea Crispa (African water weed - S.Africa)?

Elodea Densa (Pondweed - USA)?
I had this one about 12 years back, and my Mollies demolished it.

Elodea Canadensis (Canadian pondweed - N.America)?

Anyway, take your pick.

I gave Silent Doh the plants. I am sure they are ancharis after researching for a long time. They grew well in my tropical tank even though they are cold water plants. Actually they grew so well that they were difficult to keep up with so I just gave them all to my goldfish. Razz

I understand that many of the Elodea species are originally cold water plants.

I don't think these are Anacharis as such.

If you're thinking of Anacharis nuttallii, this is synonymous with Elodea nuttallii, in which case the leaves here may not be thin enough.

E.canadensis is apparently the faster grower to E.nuttallii.

A better pic would be nice, but I'd be pushing for Elodea canadensis, or maybe even E.densa because of the longer looking leaf.

I have a plant just like that, it used to be in with our goldfish, but they died, and we turned it into a tropical tank. The plant is doing just fine, but rots when I try to plant it in the bottom and just floats on the top now... Laughing
