Embarassed Sorry I've been rather scarce since joining, but I don't have a lot of time. Just wanted to say I added a Bamboo Shrimp last week! He's kinda cute & very funny! I keep finding him clinging in the most interesting places. The 1st was inside a piece of wood! Too cute. The next time was on a plant that was hanging over the bubbling skeleton. Perhaps he was getting the jacuzzi effect! Laughing I'm hoping he lives longer than the Ghost Shrimp. Of course he could be hiding. I'm forever losing my Dwarf Catfish & only catch them out in the open every once in a while! Very Happy

Well its nice to see you back on the boards Very Happy Have never kept shrimps myself as dont think they would last very long with the fish that i keep. As you say if your tank has a lot of hiding places then your ghost shrimp might still be there Rolling Eyes I dont know what a Bamboo Shrimp looks like so if you have any pics i would'nt mind having a look Very Happy

Embarassed Kinda inept at photo of fish, fuzzy blobs of colors. He's about 2" long, yellowish w/a black stripe. He's...um...interesting!Yeah, that's it. Guy at the petstore says they cling to your hand. Laughing The ghost shrimp may well be hiding...dang dwarf catfish probably showed him all the best spots... Twisted Evil They are the masters of hiding. I haven't see the Ghost for a couple of weeks...but there is a log & castle to hide in, so maybe...hopefully...he'll make an appearance soon. I really like him & miss him terribly. Sad

The only way to get better at taking pics of fish is to keep trying Wink If you have plenty of places to hide in your tank, then that could well be why you aint seen the shrimp. Can just imagin shrimp saying " i just love playing hide and seek with the dwarf cats" hate laughing hate laughing hate laughing hate laughing hate laughing
"He's behind you"
"Oh no he's not"
"Oh yes he is"
hate laughing hate laughing hate laughing hate laughing hate laughing

Perhaps I should look at throwing a few in with my algae. They'd never go short of a feed.

Any problems between fishes and shrimp ? I'm wondering how my Angels would treat them.

I keep 12 "bamboo" shrimp (I call them Singapore shrimp, but they have many common names). They are completely harmless to other fish and shrimp in the aquarium. It's best if you house them with other fish and shrimp that won't pester them to death (literally). It's believed that they live for about 3 to 5 years. They are ALL wild caught, so don't let anyone tell you differently. I am currently working to raise them in captivity.

I'm also itching to get some African filter shrimp! Razz

from experience, i have found that angels and shrimps dont mix. i had a couple of shrimps in my 40 gal tank with 2 angels and they seemed to survive but when i put the angels in the 30 gal tank they munched most of the 'easier to catch' shrimps.

i recon shrimps are harmless to other fish but i get the feeling they make a tastey snack for larger cichlids. hence i dont mix shrimps with my new convicts either.

i love my shrimps. fun to watch and great at helping to keep the tank clean. eating lots of algae and will even go through detritis looking for undigested food bits and thus again help with
keeping the tank clean.
