Surprised My red Betta appears to have bloat. His belly swells up & sometimes it appears the swelling goes down. He's eating normally & swimming around, but sometimes appears quite bouyant. Anyone ever see or experience this??? Confused

What are you feeding the fish? This is called 'boring diet syndrome'. Not enough variety or too much of one food or not a high quality food will bloat any fish.

My brother's betta also seems a bit bloated. He get's fed plain betta food and nothing else. Other than the bloat, he seems just fine. He swims around a lot and doesn't act lethargic at all, so I guess he's ok.

I feed my bettas every other day and they get Tetra fish crisps, OSI vivid color flake, OSI spirulina flake, OSI freshwater flake and frozen bloodworms. Feeding one type of food is a very bad thing. Could you eat just one thing your entire life?

Well i for one would not like to eat the same thing all the time. Remember variaty is the spice of life, also i personaly dont think its a good thing to just feed the same food, as what would happen if you could not get hold of the said food ?

So you could live on pizza as long as you could change the toppings ! So is that not the same as saying you could not eat one thing your entire life ? yes Think

What if the betta will eat nothing else? You really can't force feed it. Once my brother bought some seafood flakes meant for bettas, but the fish wouldn't touch it. I also tried some of my spirnula and color enhancing pelets, but he won't go for those either. Maybe I should try again someday, he might figure it out eventually.

Which is the perfect reason why you should offer a variaty of food stuffs so as your fish dont get conditiond to only eat one type of flake Rolling Eyes

Rolling Eyes Mine has the same problem & were all like that when I got them. It has to be the tiny pellets that float, too. Picky little boogers! Mad
