I don't know if anyone is doing research.... but my goldfish lost some of its fins, and when it grew them back the parts that were regrown were black.... I found that odd, it isn't normal is it?

I was having a 'go' at you - 'Moors' are black goldfish! I like Comets, I'd like to pop a couple in some sort of large garden pot outside, at some stage.

I understand that when Goldfish heal, the healing area is often black. Do you know why the fins were lost in the first instance?

Also, have you tested for Ammonia lately? High levels can also cause the blackness.

well, it died....the turtle got the best of it. drat. I was hoping the turtle wouldn't eat it (it's a small turtle... small enough that the goldfish is large compared to it)

now I know what the inside of a gold fish looks like Shocked

Hmmm, I'd have thought the large Turtle shaped growth on one side, may have been a vital symptom worth mentioning...

My condolences.

I'm not too sad... I knew the turtle might very well get it, but I doubted it....if I didn't want it to get eaten it wouldn't have been in there with the turtle anyway.

can't say the same for my sister... she was mad I had it in there with the turtle. now I'm in trouble with her. heehee she'll get over it!

Christ - Betty Boop was old when I was a kid, and I'm almost three times your age!

I was was staying at a friends house one weekend. I get up in the morning, wander to the kitchen and look out the window. The Dog 'Sooty' was lying on the lawn, with one or two leaves sitting on him. I make the casual remark, 'Oh, Sooty looks like He's dead with those couple of leaves on top!'

My friends Mum rushes out 'Ssshh, ssshh, we've already had tears this morning!'. The little Sister's dog was, in fact, dead. We still get a laugh over that story.

ooo! Shocked no way! I am cracking up over here! that is too funny! well, now anyway, I'm sure it wasn't then. heehee.....

my sister's (same sis) first hamster was 'Bilbo' (from Lord of the Rings) and when we went on vacation, we had to get a babsitter for the animals. She was sooo worried about Bilbo, and being the heartless person I am, whenever she said, 'do you think he's ok?' I said, 'the dogs probably ate him.'

I said this countless times, and I started to wonder myself if the dogs had gotten him... well, we get home, Regan peeks in the cage, and no Bilbo. turns out, the dogs had gotten him. Shocked

I felt REALLY bad about that one. she started crying, so mom offers to get her another hamster.... they open the pet store just for us and she picked out another hamster, 'Coffee'. Coffee has escaped twice, but is still alive! lol

as for Betty boop, my sis that was a *cute* name. if I were the gold fish, I would've thrown myself into the turtles mouth with that name! Laughing
