Sorry, I refer to the 'diversity' of reference content. Like most things on this planet, no-one can agree on what should be.
I am quite accepting of your appraisal, the fishes feeding as they go. I always see that behaviour between feeding, fish browsing, pecking and tasting, at little specks around the tank.
Perhaps someone should come up with an odourless food, so that a more natural feeding regime can be established, without the 'frenzy' that we currently enjoy.
I really wouldn't put any other fish in the 5 gallon tank with the betta. If you really wanted to, you could add a female betta or two, but then there's the chance of the male betta harassing the females. If you have enough plants and at least 2 females, it would be more difficult for the male to bother them.
Wow. This was really poor advice. Male and female bettas should only be housed together in the spawn tank, but only under supervision in case the two need to be seperated. I've only seen where an experienced breeder kept 2 males in with females in a 125 gallon aquarium, but was done so with supervision. A 5.5 gallon aquarium is WAY TOO SMALL to house a male and 1 or 2 females together. That's asking for trouble. Do NOT house bettas of either or the opposite sex together!!! The only time bettas should be housed together is when there are at least 3 females in a at least a 10 gallon aquarium. Any less bettas or any more bettas should be housed singly!!!!!!

I found the betta advice and approach of delivery of that advice offensive. The poster could have worded their advice differently. No newbie should follow it and should only be carried out by an EXPERIENCED betta keeper., but in no way should it be done in a 5 gallon.

your response is inappropriate and unnecessarily aggressive. there are lots of different ways of saying things. if you disagree with someone you can voice your opinion without being so rude. plus you may have failed to notice that bettinacharlotta is actually the founder/owner of this site.

For myself, I had assumed Bettina was going by her own experiances, with her own fish.
Can we cool this one off, thanks folks ? Get back to the fishes, rather than a discussion on communications skills. I'm not opposed to simply turfing posts that I feel are not conducive to our 'atmosphere'.
