Shocked Are you insinuating they have middle age spred ? Must get them to swim around more hate laughing hate laughing Think it could be that it could also be that they are in good condition i.e. not starved, like they can be when they are first imported, which is why you stay well away from the ones that look emancipated, do you know the reason why they never import adult fish ?

Having seen that individual I bought, and lost recently, I have an eye for that emacipated look now.

Do you get what I mean about the body height, or should I pop up a pic ? (as if I don't know what your answer will be Rolling Eyes)

I assume they don't ship adults for 1) They don't live as long for the end user, and 2) Their breeding potential for further stock.

Although, you've used the term 'import', are you suggesting a quarantine / native habitat scenerio ?

Yea pop some pictures up, you know i like pics Very Happy
Your part way there with the reason with the breeding as they only become mature at a certain age/size the other main reason is they are a food fish in its native rivers

What are you saying, they don't ship mature stock because they've been eaten ?

I'm not sure that I've really seen a full grown Clown Loach, to appreciate it as a potential lunch.

i had a couple of CLs ages ago that got quite big. one was about 6 inches long and very fat.

i saw one in a LFS that must have been 8 or 9 inches long and VERY fat. it could have made a nice platefull. Shocked

oh, and i have just got myself 2 new ones, about 2.5 inches long and quite skinny. when they deal with my snail problem (fingers crossed) they will probably be quite fat Laughing

...and no, i dont plan to eat them Rolling Eyes

p.s. that reminds me, i need to update my signature sometime soon (quite a few changes to list).

The Snails ? !

About 6" would be the largest Clown Loach that I've seen, and I was stunned. I hadn't seen one beyond about 2.5", before that.

I've been pulling up the Snails from my small tank, and emptying them into the large tank, for the Clowns. This lot here, didn't even make a dent !

correction - they look like the rams horn snails i used to have.

i put the 2 small (2.5 inches) CLs in my 30 gal 5 days ago. it was absolutely crawling with snails and i thought it might take the CLs a couple of weeks minimum to deal with them but to my surprise i looked at my tank tonight and realised i cant see one snail. even looking at the tank closely there isn't one to been seen anywhere.

the CLs look a bit fatter than they did the other day but i'm surprised they haven't done a Mr Creosote and burst their seams considering how much they must have consumed. plus they still munch at anything else that hits the bottom like they haven't been fed in a week. Laughing

I mean 'make a dent' in the Snail population, after taking them out. I had the kids go collecting last weekend, and now you can finally notice that they're thinning out.

It doesn't really worry me if the Clowns don't get into them straight up. I'm sure they'll nibble them away, snacking between meals.

These are 'Malaysian' snails, Mucky. Ram's Horn, are so named because they look like a Ram's horn. Find a pic of a Merino Ram. Stuff it, I'll do it...

Now, here's a couple of Malaysians. See ? They don't look anything like a Rams Horn !
