Very good information. I've raised these for about 40 years.
Amphilophus Labiatum, Amphilophus Centrinellum (Midas)
Amphilophus Zaliosum (arrow) and now there are several others that are part of the "Red Devil" complex. (Piebald, Amarillo, Hoogaboomerus, Chancho and others) Originally they were
all Cichlasoma Erythraeum..."red Devil"....Diablo Roja....I have about 20 or so now, of all the varieties, the largest being 16 inches and weighs in at about 7 lbs. (but the norm is 13 to 15 inches. The zaliosum is without a doubt the most aggressive.
Labiatums have larger protruding lips and rarely get the hump.
colorations from white, striped, deep dark red, pink, orange, yellow or several colors. This is my 16 inch male....quad colored

I only collect cichlids, and, thanks for the welcome....I have a 250 gallon, 150 gallon, 110 gallon, two 40 gallons, one 39 gallon octagon and several 10 gallons. I have all kinds of "Red Devils"...most every specimen of most all of them. I have a deep water red Dovii male, a female Dovii, several of the Amphilophus Centrinellums, several labiatums, red faced costa rican midas, red barred midas, striped labiatums, barred midas, chancho, amarillo, umbriferums, haitensis, tetracanthus (cuban cichlid), and one very large butticoferi tilapia that's trying to mate with my female dovii.....I think that's all I have?....could be something I'm forgetting....alot of mine are wild caught...here's a photo of the "catch" of one of the red faced costa ricans above....

No, a friend of mine caught some of them, others were caught by some of the "connections" I have thru out the country. Funny thing though, down in Florida (U.S.A.), there are all kinds of species in the waters there that have been released by stupid people.....take a look at this article..:::

I believe that's why Austrailia is so strict about what you all
can purchase or have imported there. People here in the southern part of America catch everything from African cichlids, Peacock eyed bass, oscars are everywhere, red devils, tilapia, managuenses (jaguars), and just multitude of exotic fish....
