months ago i set up a 15 gal tank and put in 5 albino corys and 5 trilineatus corys. with in a few days eggs where laid but unfortunately they didn't hatch. at that time i put my corys back in the 30 gal community tank as i needed the 15 gal for something else.

on sunday i did some tank re-arranging. amongst other things i decided to set up a breeding tank for my corys again. this time i put in just my 5 albinos as 2 of the females looked as though they might be fat with eggs.

today (tuesday) i look in the tank and notice a small group of eggs stuck to the glass. my 1st thought was this is only a small amount and may only be the start of the egg laying. i looked away for a few minutes and looked back and there were more eggs stuck to the glass. so this time i got my web cam ready to record. i sat for a good 10 minutes waiting but nothing and i needed to go to the toilet. when i got back from the toilet more eggs had been laid. again i start watching closely to see if i can see them lay more. with in a few minutes i see one of the females with eggs held between her anal fins so i quickly go to grab the cam and film the eggs being stuck to the glass. unfortunately the cam had switched off so it took me a moment to ready it again. would u believe it, sods law, as soon as cam was ready i looked at the tank only to see the eggs had already been stuck to the glass, Doh!.

at the moment i am not sure if i will try hatching these eggs in a separate smaller tank or leave them in the 15g.

i will probably add an update later and let you all know what happens next.

photographer pervert hate laughing Would you want somebody filming you ? Second thoughts dont answer that ! Funny though the fish are quite happy letting you watch there behaviour, but as soon as the camera comes out, hey presto they either do one or just stop doing what it was they were doing Brick wall hate-wall But keep us informed on how you go with the eggs

on wed more eggs were laid. i gave up trying to film it for now, lol.

i have decided to leave the eggs in the tank for now and let 'nature' take it's course. looking at the eggs it looks like more than 50% have started to turn a yellowish brown colour, which i believe mean they are healthy and might hatch.

i did notice a slightly odd thing today and last night. the corys, mum included, have eaten quite a few of the eggs but only seemed to have eaten the white (bad) ones. Smile

i will probably leave the eggs in the tank for now and if they appear to hatch i will either move them to a rearing tank or put a sponge filter in the current tank and let them take their chances with the adults present.

again, i will probably add an update in a few days, let u all know if any hatch.

yellowish brown colour in eggs usually mean that you will indeed have a few wriglers in a few days Very Happy Also it sounds as though you have a good "mum" with her weeding out the bad eggs, will look forwards to your updates Cool

another and final update ...

i left the eggs in the tank and noticed that over the days a lot of them 'disappeared'. i am fairly sure that most of them got eaten as i witnessed the corys doing it. a couple of days ago there were a few yellow/brown eggs left on the glass and the next day none. i guess there is a possibility that some hatched but i get the feeling that if they did they may have either been eaten or sucked up the filter (no sponge filter, only an ordinary one, in this tank just now).

i am not too concerned for now though. i was happy to let this batch of eggs follow a 'natural' outcome. i will leave the albino adults in this tank just now. they now have 5 new trilineatus (possibly julii) neighbours sharing the tank. with luck if i keep up the cool water changes the albinos may lay more eggs in a few weeks. i can then try moving the eggs to a separate hatching tank. if they do lay more eggs i may start a new thread to let u know if i have any luck.

oh dear, ... the albinos laid more eggs today, even got to see them go into the T position. unfortunately i am running out of space with all the other babies i have and one of my small tank heaters just broke so i may have to leave these eggs in the 15g tank with the parents and hope for the best again. Confused

Have you started a fish farm ? Personaly if i was you i would leave the eggs where they are, especially if the tank only houses the parents

decided to put them into my 6g tank with a bit of methylene blue and a little box air filter. one problem tho is i dont have a heater for this tank due to it breaking a few days ago. i have put the tank in a warm part of my main room tho and it seems to be averaging about 20c which may be a little cold but i am going to wait and see if any of the eggs hatch and then maybe try and re-introduce them to the parents tank.

the main reason i dont want to leave them in the parents tank for now is that there are now 15 corys in this tank and im sure they are eating the eggs. i will add a post in a few days to say if any hatch and how i get on.

in the meantime my baby bristlenose and zebra danios seem to be doing well. Very Happy
