Hi folks!

Alright, so I've finally been able to identify the two fish that I recently acquired and it turns out that they are barramundi - lates calcarifer!! Now if you are not familiar with these big boys, they can apparently grow to be over 2 meters long and over 130lbs. One site that I found said that the recommended tank size for a barramundi was 900gal. I don't have a 900gal tank, nor do I plan to get one. I will accomodate these young fellas as best I can, but there will obviously come a day when I will not be able to house them.

The truth is that I made a mistake in buying them in the first place. I like them just fine, but I feel bad that I purchased fish that I am not equipped to care for once they reach maturity. So...what do I do now? I'm currently just trying to make them as comfortable as possible (which isn't hard yet, since they are only about 3 inches long). Anyone have any other suggestions?

You could start to look at rehousing them now, for a later date as and when you need to put them in a bigger tank

Right, thanks. I've already sort of started on that. I think also, I may have to probably get rid of them even while I still have the means to keep them (maybe that's what you were talking about) because once they get to a certain point, I imagine they are going to be even more difficult to find a home for.

Thanks.

Correct, that was what i ment. much easier to move on now than later when they are much bigger, this is why i think it is a good idea to reserch fish before you buy, i know it is not allways possible

Yeah, actually, I think I found a store that wants at least one of them. So, unfortunately, I may not be having my pair of barramundi for long. That's fine, though. I have to remember that my goal is to get them to where they can be taken care of.

You will also find that it will be easier to let them go now rather than later when you will have become attached to them Wink
