up till tonight i had a little baby guppy that was a surviver of 2, my female guppy only gave birth to 2 this time which is weird.

trouble is i did a water change on the 10g tank tonight that it was housed in and since i did it has dissapeared. i used 6mm airline tubing as i wasnt in a hurry and it means less stress to the fish as the new water is added slower.

a while after the water change i was watching the pregnant female shrimp that is in the same tank when it suddenly occured to me my little guppy is missing.

i can only conclude that the silly little fish must have swam too close to the airline tubing that was syphoning out the water, got sucked up and then unfortunately got poured down the drain

it cuts me up, i hate losing fish even a little baby gupy, even if i will probably soon have more. plus knowing that it was partly my fault doesnt make the loss any easier. when i do water changes on my bigger tanks i ALWAYS check the buckets with a torch before i throw away the water just incase, as im sure i have probably flushed a brown kuhli loach once before. in my defence i was very tired when i did the water change and didnt pay as much attention as i normaly would have.

i appologise in that i am not quite in keeping with the forum subject as i know what i did wrong, but well i wanted to share my grief plus anyone else that doesnt check their water before throwing it out might learn from my mistake.

Funny you should mention that...I did a water change 4 or 5 evenings back. I tilted the bucket into the light, sure enough, one of those blasted Guppies had come down the siphon again. Netted him out, checked the bucket, all clear. Tipping the bucket into the sink, and 'whats that?' flashes past over the lip. One hand dives to cover the plug-hole, whilst the other hand totally lose's control of the bucket... Another bloody Guppy!

And I found one on the floor this morning, a day or so dry. Must have jumped out just like that Cory. I actually thought it was a bit of dried leaf, until I picked it up, and saw that it had eyes!

He was a young one, maybe three months?..

Hah! If your Guppy was SAS trained, He wouldn't need to hide!
