and saw they feed orange slices to their koi. The fish were going bonkers for it. I thought orange was too acidic? Maybe just for plecs?

Weird. I've certainly not heard of it.

I would have thought the same for any of the citrus fruit.

Pear and Apple are the closet I've come.

But it got me thinking about origins. Obviously we know Koi have been bred by the Japanese and Chinese for yonks. So why do Koi have a disposition for citrus fruit ?

Sure enough, citrus fruits originated in South-East Asia. It's probably as natural a food as any native habitat morsel.

If anyone wants some 'Ugly Brown' Koi, I can get a shit-load of them. Of course they go by the name of 'European Carp' here, and are regarded as a pest species. Which is why the usual Koi are sold 'under the counter' in a few areas, as the legislation doesn't distinguish them.

I'll have to look up 'Ugly Brown' in Japanese, so they have nice name like the others.
