I had a school of cardinal tetras that I saw had white spot, so I put them in my hospital tank with Aquacare External Parasite medication, and the 3 remaining Sad don't have any spots left and seem ok. I couldn't see any spots on any of the other fish in the main tank so i didn't treat it with medication (because I dont know if will hurt hte bacteria).

Today I suddenly saw one of my delphax corys not able to swim properly, and with about 3 white spots on it. I moved it to the hospital tank with the tetras and but its looks very sick. Crying or Very sad I've turned the temperature up to 26 degrees in both the tanks.

I am going to the aquarium tomorrow to buy some protozin (becuase it sounds more reliable and I know I can get it) Is Protozin safe to use in a tank without killing hte bacteria? I don't want to have to cycle the tank again!!! 8O

Thankyou very much!!! Please reply quickly!

from my own experience i tend not to worry too much about white spot unless it gets really bad. the 1st thing i will do is raise the temp for a few days and do a 25-40% water change, this usualy helps the spots melt away.

when it comes to medication i try not to use it unless i feel it is really needed. particularly as corys dont handle meds well i find and i have a lot of corys.

if/when u move fish to a hospital tank it is important to make sure u use water from the main tank to fill the hospital tank and that the hospital tank has a good working filter. if the conditions are not the same between tanks then this could increase health probs rather than help them. u can ofcourse then start to do water changes to the hospital tank to help 'clean' the water.

if i feel i need to treat a tank for white spot i use a 'white spot' treatment. i find they tend to work ok. it is important to make sure the treated tank has plenty of oxygen and maybe an airstone as the meds can reduce the oxygen levels.

i cant think of much more to add and i do wish ur fish well and hope u dont lose them all.

to finish i think it is important at times like these to think about why the white spot may have occured in the 1st place. did u introduce new fish recently, have u been doing regular water changes, is there a possibility of contaminents in the tank, are the filters working ok/needing cleaned etc etc etc?? the reason for thinking about this is it may help understand why the fish got the white spot and to help stop them getting it again.

good luck

I am with the paw, for white spot disease you can raise the temperature of the water to 90of / 32oc for a few hours at a time every 3 to 5 days (make sure your fish can tolerate this) The clown loach is quite susceptible to white spot but like some scaleless catfish are very sensitive to some of the remedies so read the instructions if you keep these fish.
I personaly use and swear by protozin, for white spot
