Here are some recent changes that have happened in Raulkens ForumUp Community. Most of these items are more for the interest of Administrators, and Moderators.

Backups will shortly be available for Forums, at $10 per 20Mb.

50 new Style Templates have been made available. (We currently use 'Acid' on Aquatic Babble).

The Visual Code Authentification is to be activated for User Registration. This is to prevent automated 'flood' registration.

PostPosted: Sun Apr 16, 2006 9:15 pm    Post subject: phpBB Forum Bot's Reply with quote

Clunkster made mention recently of our 'guests' who don't login. Here's a piece that does mention one of our non-contributing Members (who shall soon be deleted).

Quote:
Bot Authors Targeting phpBB Forums Security
Bots are registering user accounts on thousands of phpBB forums across the Internet, raising concerns that the bot's authors are laying the groundwork for mass exploitation down the road. The activity of a bot named FuntKlakow was discussed in a Digg thread Sunday, with many forum owners confirming that FuntKlakow had created accounts and even posted simplistic messages ("O How nice" and "Wow that is cool").

FuntKlakow's post signatures have included links to proxy surfing and "traffic generator" services, raising the prospect that its goal may be spam rather than exploits. But as noted on a German site that issued an early warning about the bot's behavior, "the next time the phpBB announces a critical vulnerability, the bot would have everything ready (just a post click away) from attacking thousands of sites/forums." Google searches suggested the bot may have created accounts on as many as 33,000 forums.

phpBB has experienced a series of security problems in recent years, and has been banned by some web hosts. That hasn't prevented a 79 percent increase in active sites using phpBB between June and December of 2005, according to data from our Web Server Survey and related datasets.

Recent upgrades to the ForumUp Forums.

An update to the MySQL database, resulting in better performance (not as slow).

Backups are now available, but horrendously priced ! But that will come down in time (it's a cost recovery thing...).

HTML Header and Footer now available on payment for 'Ads Free'. We get that courtesy of my involvement there.

New anti-Spam measures, now in place for User Registration, and Forum Creation (Yes, the yobbo's create Forums as well - redirected to Porn/Drug sites). And this is why Forums are going off-line these last couple of days, to do the software patch.

The 'Upload Image to Post' link, which was previously only available to a handful of Styles, is now a standard feature. But it only does thumbnails, the full pic must be viewed off-site.

Advertising is no longer with Google, but with Chitika. Not that we'd notice here (with no Ads anyway).

Yeah. I'm sure how long it's been up, but I'm hoping it'll bring a couple of members in.
