So my time has been a real commodity lately. I really haven't had time to devote to breeding etc. so a while back I decided to (for now) stop the breeding. I sold the Angel pair and the babies & kept my 150 full of about 20 angels. It's planted & looks great...I'll have to post a pic.

With the pair gone, I didn't need the 20 any more. So That just left me with an empty 55g. I've always admired Oscars, so....I have one growing out in the 55 now. He's an albino tiger and he is sooooo cool. I'm going to need a 75g to 125g before he gets anywhere near 12" to 14"

All the stereotypical cliche stuff you hear about Oscars is true so far. Even though I've only had him for about four weeks I've really enjoyed their truly unique behaviors.

#1:
They do sulk just like you read. The first two days he hid behind a piece of wood, swam very little, and peeked out occasionally.

#2:
The growth rate is insane! (Pics below) I got him when he was just over 1" almost 4 weeks ago. He's over 3" now and is as tall as he was long the day I got him.

#3:
They will eat for as long as you will feed them. True piglets.

#4:
They do learn to recognize their owner (feeder is more accurate) very quickly. If I got the the side of the tank and put my face up to the glass, he'll swim up & go nose to nose with me. If I have my wife or kids try it, he won't go up to them.

#5:
Hand feeding. I got him to do this for the first time two days ago...really on the first day I tried. It'll be nice to get him used to it so people can hand feed him when he's big.

I'm loving this guy so far. Oscars really are a unique fish.
So here are the pics.....

The day I got him

After one week

After two weeks

After three weeks

That was 5 days ago & he looks thicker already. I'm really going to enjoy this guy. I say 'guy' but you can't really sex Oscars until tubes drop. That and "his" color are why we chose a non-gender specific name. Chowder.

Welcome back gary Very Happy Must say chowder is growing very nice Very Happy And yes you are right they are a very "character" fish, i used to have some a long time ago, and they were great entertainment, onr thing they loved was a ping pong ball in the tank to play with (you wanna try it), another thing they would do is follow me around, i also used to move my finger along the glass and they would follow it, like i said and as you are finding out they really are great little (if you can call a full grown oscar little Shocked ) characters.
